About Us
Seine River Services (SRS) for Seniors is a bilingual non-profit organization providing services and resources for seniors who wish to live independently with dignity in their own homes as long as possible. SRS was created in 2006 by the South Eastman Regional Health Authority and hired its first full-time Senior Resource Coordinator in March 2007. A merger of the South Eastman and Central Regional Health Authorities in 2012 became Southern Health. SRS was incorporated formally in 2013 as SRS INC. The organization has had a service purchase agreement with Southern Health since 2012 for providing a specific menu of services for seniors.
Southern Health provides oversight and funding on an annual basis for the Senior Resource Coordinator program. There have been 2 Senior Resource Coordinators hired by SRS, Juliette Rowan 2007-2019 and Melanie Bremaud (photo on right) from 2019 to the present.
There are approximately 1,500 seniors aged 65+ living independently in the large geographic area covered by the rural municipalities of La Broquerie and Ste. Anne and the Town of Ste. Anne, excluding Villa Youville, as those residents are served by a tenant resource coordinator. From 2006-2021, the communities of Ste. Geneviève and Ross were included because of the shared linguistic, cultural and social interests of the population. However, in 2021, the RM of Taché received new funding from Southern Health to hire a part-time Senior Resource Coordinator.
SRS is governed by an elected volunteer Board of Directors. There have been many volunteer Board members from across the region since 2006. Board presidents have been Erika Wehrle, Aurele Boisvert, Suzanne Ritchot and Heather Dean. The longest serving Board member is Claire Lord who also serves the important role of treasurer. The office of SRS has always been in La Broquerie and since 2013 in a private office in Le Chalet.
SRS Inc has had a long history of community support. As Southern Health provides salary for the Senior Resource Coordinator, the SRS Board must raise funds to cover operating expenses. Fundraising over the years has included annual grants from the 3 municipalities, as well as corporate and private donors. A creative meat pies project at Ste. Genevieve Community Centre was a focus of community fundraising for several years before COVID. SRS Inc has always had dedicated volunteers providing office support for specific projects, light home maintenance and transportation to destinations in Ste. Anne, La Broquerie and Winnipeg. Fee- for- service providers are important members of our team providing foot care, hairdressing, and house cleaning.
